Get to know Dr. Corey...

Why did I chose to be a Chiropractor?

I chose Chiropractic after spending ten years working in hospitals. The experience of working in the hospital environment and the conventional approach of health care taught me that there had to be a better way to treat and heal the body. That way was Chiropractic.

What do I find most rewarding about working with my patients?

The best thing about working with my patients is seeing them get better through Chiropractic treatment. The patients are always so grateful for getting better without having to be on drugs or go through surgery.

If I weren’t a chiropractor what would I be?

I think if I were not a chiropractor I would have persued  a career as a radiologist. I enjoyed my time and the experience I gained as a radiographer and sonographer, however as a radiologist you lose a large amount of patient interaction reading films in a room alone. I think my desire to work directly with my patients helped me choose Chiropractic.

What is your favorite past time or hobby?

My favorite pastime is waterskiing. I have been skiing since I learned how to ski as a child. I have been part of waterski shows and have enjoyed teaching many people to ski, including teaching a spry 65 year old uncle how to barefoot for the first time!

What procedure which you perform is your favorite and why?

I think that my favorite procedure is actually acupuncture. Treating patients with acupuncture can help as an adjunct treatment for almost any musculoskeletal problem as well as be a primary treatment for many organic problems as well as treat for allergy elimination. It is truly an all inclusive treatment.

What does it mean to you to be a chiropractor?

Being a Chiropractor to me is being an advocate for the patient and the patients wellness. Too often in health care the physician will take a predetermined course of action with a patient without consulting the patient or really listening to what the patient is saying. I feel chiropractic allows me to get to the source of a patients illness and then treat the cause rather than trying to cover up a persons symptoms or just cutting out the pathologic structure without giving the patient a chance to heal themselves properly.

Of all of the training you have undergone, what is the one thing you feel really helps your patients?

The most beneficial training I have received was  actually my undergraduate training as an adult education specialist. I feel this gives my patients another tool to use in their recovery. This training helps me educate my patients as to  what is happening to their body during the damage, repair and rehabilitation phases of their condition. It also helps me teach simple methods of home care and proper body mechanics to aid in prevention of new injury or flair up of old injuries.
